Melancon for Congress

 Momentum Is Building

Melancon has over $1.6 million in the bank four months from Election Day!

NAPOLEONVILLE, LACongressman Charlie Melancon’s campaign has collected more than $679,000 in receipts for the 2nd quarter of fundraising for his re-election, shows Charlie’s broad-based appeal and impressive fund raising ability throughout the district.  Melancon has now raised over $1.9 million for the November election with $1,651,630 cash on hand.  This has been a record breaking quarter as momentum continues to build.

“Charlie Melancon’s fundraising success shows he has what it takes to wage an aggressive re-election campaign,” Campaign Manager Bradley Beychok said. “We are confident that we will have one of the best fundraising totals among all incumbents and candidates around the country.”  That, coupled with the massive 36- point poll lead, puts Charlie Melancon in a strong position for re-election in November.

  • Melancon translates strong support measures into a sizeable 36-point lead over State Senator Craig Romero (58% Melancon / 22% Romero).
  • Melancon’s lead over Romero has widened from 24 points to 36 points since July of 2005.  In July 2005, just 8 months after he defeated Craig Romero for the first time, Melancon led by a 51% to 27% margin.
  • Melancon receives a strong positive job rating for his performance handling hurricane relief and rebuilding efforts (64% positive / 17% negative).

Melancon reports having collected $679,769 in receipts with $1,651,630 cash on hand. The campaign received 427 contributions from in-state individuals from parishes across the district.

Even local and national political analysts continue to tout Melancon’s strong position for re-election.

-     “No one is sure what the electorate will look like here, but for now, we'll bet on the incumbent, Melancon.” - Larry Sabato's Crystal Ball - 6/29/06

-     “The next round of the most important elections we will ever have will come next fall. Then on and on it goes. Reps. Bobby Jindal, R-Kenner, Charlie Melancon, D-Napoleonville, and Richard Baker, R-Baton Rouge, are all shoo-ins this fall. All they have to do to win is make certain they file on time to qualify and try not to mess up between now and November.” - Mark Singletary- New Orleans City Business 05/29/2006
