Says Challenging Melancon an "Uphill Battle"
It was another attempted father-son
pass-off two years ago that might have kept Craig Romero from running
for re-election to Congress this year instead of kicking off his
campaign to challenge Congressman Charlie Melancon. In 2004, State
Sen. Romero finished a close third behind Melancon, who went on
to edge out Billy Tauzin III, who was backed in the primary by the
state Republican Party. Romero is as determined as ever, but faces
an uphill battle against Melancon, who holds a wide lead in polls
he has commissioned. Romero has raised $615,000, impressive for
a challenger, but Melancon has $1.047 million. - The Louisiana Political
