Receives Endorsements, Award from St. Bernard Parish
CHALMETTE, LA: Congressman Charlie Melancon (LA-3) received an award from the
St. Bernard Parish School Board yesterday. Melancon was awarded for his “honored
and perilous support of the children of St. Bernard Parish and dedicated service
to the school system as it rebuilds in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.” Melancon
received a certificate of proclamation at the School Board’s monthly meeting.
Melancon also picked up five endorsements from the St. Bernard Parish Council.
Four of the endorsements came from Republicans. Those endorsing Melancon were
Joey DiFatta, Judy Hoffmeister, Kenny Henderson, Craig Taffaro, and Tony Meleirne.
“Charlie
was here immediately after Hurricane Katrina. He didn’t look for anything other
than how to help us,” At-large Councilman DiFatta said. “Because of his work towards
our recovery, he is the best person to represent St. Bernard Parish for the next
two years. It is an easy choice to endorse Congressman Melancon.”
Earlier in the year, Melancon picked up key endorsements from St. Bernard President
Junior Rodriguez and Sheriff Jack Stephens. Melancon was also honored as Legislator
of the Year by the St. Bernard Chapter of the Alliance for Good Government. “Charlie
did a great job for St. Bernard Parish during Katrina and has continued to work
to help us on our road to recovery,” Stephens said. “I, and the people of St.
Bernard, are forever grateful for the work that he did.” “Charlie
Melancon has been outstanding helping us with the problems we’ve had,” Rodriguez
said. “He was always the first one to help out any time we called.”
“Citizens across the 3rd District are echoing what those in St. Bernard are saying,”
Melancon spokesman Lewis Lowe said. “Congressman Melancon is the best man for
the job and they want him back for another term.” ###-
