| The
past two years have been extremely productive and rewarding, as I have worked
hard to make the 3rd Congressional District a great place to work and live. However,
we still face many challenges. First and foremost, we must rebuild our coastline
from the tragedy of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita to protect our citizens from future
devastation. These two storms forced us to ask questions about the health of our
infrastructure and emergency response capabilities. We must now realize that long-sought-after
coastal restoration projects are not just a want but a need. I will continue to
work tirelessly until all Louisiana citizens can rest assured of their security.
In addition, people want better jobs and better education for their children.
Businesses and families are struggling to pay their health care costs. Critical
industries like commercial fishing, sugar, and petrochemicals are hurting from
the harmful trade and tax policies from Washington. I have a lifetime of
experience solving the real problems of everyday people. As an economic development
expert, small businessman, former state legislator, and former president of the
Louisiana sugar cane industry's trade association, I know that job creation begins
with education. I also know that families and small businesses can't survive without
affordable healthcare. I pledge to continue to work to make Louisiana the state
of choice for people working and raising families. I am looking forward
to a spirited campaign and I hope I can count on your continued support. As always,
our most important asset on Election Day will be the grassroots support of people
like you. Please feel free to contribute online and sign up as a volunteer through
our website. I would appreciate your vote on Election Day. Thank you for
your time. Charlie
